Benefits & Compensation

We offer a cost-shared, competitive and comprehensive benefit plan that is complimentary to our overall compensation plan.

Our objectives are:

  • to maintain a benefit plan to attract, retain and motivate qualified workers.
  • to be consistent and equitable and funded to maximize tax advantages to the Municipality and the employees.
  • to enable employees and their dependents to survive economic adversity from loss of earning capacity through illness, disability, retirement or death.

Compensation

To continue to be competitive in a tight market we participate in a national survey and several other provincial surveys during the year, which focus on salary, benefits and working conditions. These surveys include both private and public organizations located in our region and across Alberta.

Benefits and working conditions cover the following:

  • paid holidays
  • annual vacation entitlements
  • hours of work
  • overtime (Unionized and Management Staff)
  • standby pay
  • bereavement, pallbearer, jury duty and maternity leaves
  • sick leave
  • short-term and long-term disability
  • group life insurance
  • vision care insurance
  • dental insurance
  • Alberta Health Care Insurance
  • payroll and purchase plans for bonds and RRSPs
  • pension plans

Our benefits and working conditions are comparable, and some benefits are more generous than others
