The Community Services Department consists of three branches that work to enhance the quality of life of Wood Buffalo residents.

Culture
Highlighting the cultural mosaic of the Municipality is the motto for this area. The Culture Work Unit is focused on developing community-based initiatives and programs that provide opportunities in the areas of arts, heritage and culture. Please visit the Culture section for more information.

Facilities
The Facilities work unit plays a vital role in the initial needs assessment and feasibility of all future recreation facility projects, continuing in a liaison role for the remainder of the projects. This unit oversees the annual granting and facility subsidies of current municipally-owned recreation facilities, ensuring the facility operating agreements are updated, renewed and adhered to. Continued collaboration with recreation facility operators always exists ensuring capital enhancement, future development and life cycle maintenance are considered, financed and implemented. Neighbourhood and Community Development Branch
The Neighbourhood and Community Development Branch (NCD) strives to enhance, strengthen and stabilize individual, family and community life by assisting persons to identify and act on their own social needs. NCD is a partnership between the Province, Municipalities and Métis settlements that develops locally-driven preventative social initiatives to enhance the well-being of individuals, families and communities. Local participation in NCD began in 1973, five years following its introduction by the Province of Alberta.

Rural Services
Rural Services Division is the bridge and conduit for the residents of the rural communities in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. We relay their concerns and community issues to Administration and Council. Fort Chipewyan
This branch is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the community airport, town roads and streets, landfill, water treatment plant, sewage lagoon, water distribution and sewer collection systems, municipal buildings, rural roads and the winter road.
