Promoting safe communities within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo through community engagement, public education and crime prevention.

The Wood Buffalo RCMP Community Policing Unit is a proactive team dedicated to building collaborative partnerships and safe communities through education and awareness programs.

RCMP members are available for group, class or organization presentations, dressed in Red Serge for special events, or as "Monty the Bear" to brighten your event. Please send us an email with all of the event details. Make sure you include your name and a phone number where you can be reached during normal business hours.

Youth Initiatives

  • Childhood Injury Prevention (CHIP)
    CHIP promotes safe and healthy living for children and their families through prevention programs and through education initiatives.
  • Drug Awareness Resistance Education (DARE)
    An elementary school program that provides children with the information and skills they need to make healthy and wise decisions regarding drugs and violence.
  • Prevention of Alcohol Related Trauma in Youth (PARTY)
    This program aims to prevent injuries and trauma by promoting awareness and educating youth about alcohol-related risks.
  • Y-Connect and Assets in Action
    A group of community-minded organizations that work in collaboration with each other to share information about their services, programs, and events, which focus on empowering youth.
  • School Liaison Officer Program
    Each school within the municipality has an assigned RCMP Officer. The officers engage with youth through school visits and educational presentations. This program increases positive youth interaction with police and promotes safe schools and communities.

Other Community Programs

  • Block Parent
    This program provides immediate neighborhood assistance to people in distress through a safety network.
  • Auxiliary Constables are trained volunteers who promote community-based policing by participating in community events and assisting RCMP regular members with some of their general duties.
  • Community Advisory Committee (CAC)
    The purpose of this committee is to enhance communication and relationships between RCMP/Bylaw Services and the community. The objective is to support RCMP/Bylaw Services in its ongoing effort to build and to maintain a network of affiliations within the community.
  • Auxiliary Constable Program
    Auxiliary Constables are trained volunteers who promote community-based policing by participating in community events and assisting RCMP regular members with some of their general duties.

    This organization is dedicated to promoting wellness and safety by identifying issues of concern within the community and by developing collaborative partnerships to address them.

  • Community Network
    This network of community-minded organizations, work in
    collaborative partnerships to promote their services, programs and events within the Municipality.
  • Victim Services
    This program provides victims of crime and trauma with high quality support, information, and appropriate referrals. The primary goals of this service are to minimize the crisis and to facilitate the victim’s return to stability and to an improved quality of life.
