Traffic Enforcement
Wood Buffalo RCMP Traffic Services has a mandate of enforcing and promoting traffic safety within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
- One Constable position is dedicated to a drug interdiction program. This member utilizes a police dog for detecting criminal activity during routine traffic stops.
- Wood Buffalo RCMP also has a Traffic Reconstructionist who typically attends fatal and serious injury collisions in the region.
Our Unit follows Canada's Road Safety Vision 2010
goals for reduction in fatality and serious injury collisions on our roadways. While the unit adopts the Provincial Traffic Calendar released by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation to reach the Vision 2010 goals, we also realize that we need to target local issues such as vehicle equipment and aggressive driving behavior.
Traffic Services has and will continue to work with local enforcement partners such as the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Bylaw Enforcement Division, the Sheriff's Traffic Department, Commercial Vehicle Inspectors, and Fish and Wildlife officers in an effort to make our roads safer and to achieve the goals as outlined in Road Safety Vision 2010.
