Intersection Safety Devices

More than 681 collisions occurred at intersections in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in 2010 so the RCMP and Bylaw Services want to increase public safety through the enforcement of traffic regulations and speed limits.

Intersection Safety Devices have been installed at intersections in order to reduce drivers’ speeds as they approach intersections, enforce red light infractions, and reduce the number of collisions and fatalities at intersections.

June 1, 2011

Start of awareness campaign to inform residents about the devices

August 1, 2011

Start of warning period where drivers who speed through intersections will receive warning notices in the mail

September 1, 2011

Full activation where drivers who speed through intersections will receive tickets in the mail.

The campaign timelines are in accordance with the Alberta Solicitor General guidelines.
