Gretzky? Stamkos? Wickenheiser? Who will you be when you hit the Snye?

(Fort McMurray, AB – February 14, 2012) – Hockey enthusiasts have been invited to register teams for the Shootout on the Snye, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

Part of winterPLAY, the Shootout on the Snye is the region’s premier pond hockey tournament happening March 2 – 4, 2012.

“Playing four-on-four hockey on the frozen Snye under the Athabasca sky is a great way to spend a winter weekend,” said Ashley Young, Recreation Coordinator with the Municipality. “Now in its fifth year the Shootout is lots of fun for people of all ages.”

Potential participants are asked to register their team, or as individuals, by February 24. To register your team, and for more information, please visit www.woodbuffalo.ab.ca/pondhockey.

The tournament will kick off with a special exhibition game between the Fire Department and the RCMP. The winner of that game will go on to face a special East Coast team. That team will be comprised of former Nova Scotia premiere Rodney MacDonald and several East Coast Music Award winners, all of whom will be performing in concert on Saturday.

The cost to register is $130 per team, with a maximum of six players per team. Divisions will be broken into Novice, Atom, Pee Wee, Bantam, and Open (Midget age and older), with 10 teams per division. Teams can be all men, all women, or mixed.

To volunteer, or to register individually, please contact Ashley Young at 780-743-7077 or email ashley.young@woodbuffalo.ab.ca.
