SafeGrowth will create safer, more sustainable communities

(Fort McMurray, AB – February 15, 2012) – Council unanimously passed a new crime prevention and reduction plan on Tuesday evening, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

The plan, SafeGrowth, advocates a new planning and prevention process that uses a holistic approach to urban design and planning.

“Safety and crime prevention go hand in hand with comprehensive and successful community development,” said project manager Tracey Tester. “SafeGrowth gives community groups and service providers like the Municipality and the RCMP the opportunity to develop a more sustainable neighbourhood capacity while creating solutions for local public safety concerns.”

SafeGrowth gives neighbourhood members, community developers, planners and law enforcement the means to diagnose neighbourhood problems, integrate services and improve safety.
