Curbside Recycling Open House Set for June 12

(Fort McMurray, AB – June 8, 2012) – Wood Buffalo residents who currently receive Wednesday municipal waste collection are invited to an open house to answer their questions about the enhanced service, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

The open house is scheduled for Tuesday, June 12 in the gym at St. Anne Elementary School, 101 Brett Drive, from 6 – 9 p.m.

Curbside recycling services will begin for households with Wednesday waste collection routes in late June.

“Wood Buffalo residents who now receive the enhanced curbside recycling service are very enthusiastic about it,” said Mayor Melissa Blake. “They have told us the service is easy to learn and very convenient. Residents have also shared their appreciation for the opportunity to keep a clean and healthy environment, which aligns with our Municipal vision to be a global model for sustainable living in the north.”

The open house will give residents an opportunity to see the bins, learn about proper material preparation and sorting for curbside recycling and preparation for collection day. Members of the Municipal recycling team will be on hand to answer questions.

Curbside recycling was introduced in 2011 to households on Friday collection routes. Households on Thursday collection routes began receiving curbside recycling May 17.

The enhanced curbside recycling service will be phased in over the summer and early fall to households on Monday and Tuesday collection routes.
