Economic Development
The Economic Development Branch facilitates the development, implementation and monitoring of Regional Economic Development strategies and initiatives. Its responsibility is to help strengthen the region through innovative business attraction, development and retention strategies. The role is to develop and strengthen partnerships between industries, private sector communities and government which support a comprehensive and cohesive economic strategy. Its goal is to champion mutually beneficial working relationships which support a sustainable business environment. Another function is to lead the Regional Economic Development Alliance (REDA) initiative which focuses on stakeholder collaboration and capacity building.

The Urban Development Institute (UDI) - Wood Buffalo is the representative body for the development industry in Fort McMurray and area. The development industry as a whole is the largest service industry in Fort McMurray. Our task is to be a conduit between our members, the public and all levels of Government. Our goal is to provide a sustainable supply of housing and commercial property to our stakeholders, the people and businesses in our area.
