Q. I am new to Alberta. How do I get a health card?
A. Alberta Health Care cards are issued by Alberta Health and Wellness. Applications can be found on the Alberta Health and Wellness
website. -
Q. How do I find out which doctor in Fort McMurray takes new patients?
A. The Primary Care Network (PCN) keeps an updated list of doctors accepting new patients. You can contact the PCN at (780) 788-1765. You can also watch the local newspaper for advertisements from Alberta Health Services announcing new physicians. -
Q. Where are walk-in clinics located?
A. There are currently no walk-in clinics in Fort McMurray. -
Q. When and where can I get a flu vaccine?
A. During the fall each year, an advertising campaign is launched to notify the general public about when and where to get a flu vaccination. Watch the local newspaper and listen to the radio stations for advertisements. You can also call Health Link at 1-866-408-LINK (5465). -
Q. What health risks are there in this region? Should I worry about West Nile?
A. Should any new or specific public health risks arise, public announcements will be made at that time. Information about West Nile Virus can be found on Alberta Health and Wellness website. -
Q. How can I prepare myself in case of an emergency?
A. Visit the Preparing for an Emergency section of this website, which includes information to prepare for river break up, floods, severe weather, fire and winter preparedness. You can also visit the Government of Canada Get Prepared Web site www.getprepared.ca. -
Q. Is there a search and rescue service?
A. Yes. Search and Rescue is provided through the RCMP. To make a report, please call 9-1-1. -
A. The Regional Emergency Operations Centre will assist in finding short and possibly long term accommodations in extraordinary events. Emergency Social Services will also offer assistance.

Q. Are there any evacuation plans or emergency spots?
A. There are plans in place which include secure locations for emergency mustering points. In a state of emergency, municipal officials will come door to door and hand out emergency packages that will have all the information required for the situation. It is important to listen to the radio during these times for emergency updates. -

A. Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) strives to enhance, strengthen and stabilize individual, family and community life by assisting persons to identify and act on their own social needs. FCSS is a partnership between the province, municipalities and Métis settlements that develops locally-driven preventative social initiatives to enhance the well-being of individuals, families and communities. -
