Q. What day is my garbage collected?
A. Your garbage day depends on where you live. Please use the online Garbage Collection Schedule tool to look up the weekday for your street. -
Q. Do stat holidays affect my regular garbage collection schedule?
A. No. Regular waste collection stays in service on most stat holidays with the exception of Christmas and New Years Day. If your waste collection day falls on these two holidays, watch the local newspaper and listen to the radio, where you collection options will be announced. -
Q. Where should I put my garbage for pickup?
A. Place your waste receptacles on the curb in front of your property. -
A. Residents are responsible for ensuring collection points have free access by the refuse collectors at the time of collection.

Q. When am I required to have my garbage out for pick up?
A. Please have your waste receptacles curb-side by 7:30 a.m. on collection day. -
Q. Are there restrictions on the amount of materials I can put into my garbage can?
A. Yes. Each waste receptacle should not have a total weight of more than 45 lbs. or be larger than 50 cm x 80 cm. -
Q. How come my garbage got tagged?
A. Your garbage may have been tagged for one or more of the following reasons:- Restricted waste
- Over weight limit of 45 lbs. (20.5 kg)
- Exceeded limit of four containers
If you have more than four containers, an extra tag is required for each bag. Each tag is $1 and can be purchased at the cashier’s desk of Jubilee Centre, 9909 Franklin Avenue, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

A. The municipality will not be responsible for any materials that have been accidentally left within three meters of a collection point.

A. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to maintain and clean the property after collection service has been provided. To ensure minimal debris, please ensure all waste receptacles are securely tightened to make sure birds and other animals cannot get into them. Homeowners are also discouraged from placing their waste receptacles outside overnight before collection day.

A. It is the responsibility of the area developer to supply the developing neighborhood with refuse bins until the area has been accepted by the municipality as being complete.

Q. Do gated communities, multiplexes and townhouse complexes receive curb side refuse collection?
A. Refuse collection varies depending on the complex. Some may received curb side collection, while others may use a shared waste bin. To find out which applies to your complex, contact your condo board or strata council. -
Q. If I don’t receive refuse collection services from the city, will this decrease my utility bill?
A. No. -
Q. What refuse programs exist in the region?
A. The following programs are available at the landfill:- used oil recovery program
- glycol recovery program
- propane cylinder recycling (up to and including 25 lb. units)
- battery recovery program (no industrial-sized batteries)
- tire recycling program (up to 24 inch)
- e-waste recovery program
- white goods program (refrigerators and other CFC containing appliances)
- scrap metal recovery program
- concrete and rebar diversion program
- asphalt recovery program

Q. What are the landfill hours of operation?
A. The landfill is open from 8:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. seven days a week. It is closed on Christmas and New Years Day. -
Q. What materials can I bring to the landfill?
A. All acceptable materials are listed in the Utility Rates Bylaw. -
Q. What are the disposal charges for the various materials?
A. Up-to-date disposal charges are listed in the Utility Rates Bylaw. -
Q. What does "tarp your load" mean?
A. It is required by law that every load being transported over a public roadway be covered or secured in a manner to prevent any debris from falling from the vehicle Bylaw no. 02/079. The fine for an obstruction to this bylaw is $150 and there are absolutely no exceptions. -
Q. Who should I call if I want to report a litter infraction or illegal dumping?
A. Residents should report any littering or illegal dumping using the RCMP/Bylaw Complaints Line by calling (780) 788-4000. Residents are encouraged to report any infraction they witness to aid in maintaining the local environment and community appearance.
