The program is a partnership with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the Fort McMurray Public School District #2833 that services Fort McMurray. It began in 2009 as a pilot project in the downtown core utilizing students from Dr. K. A. Clark and Fort McMurray Composite High School.
The program has since expanded to encompass the whole city of Fort McMurray and Snow Angels are solicited from public schools nearby the residences of seniors who are registered for this program. Shovels and ice scrapers are donated by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and are delivered by Parks staff. Windrows are also cleared by Parks crews from Senior driveways that live on bus routes and/or are enrolled in this program.
This volunteer service is available for seniors 65 years and older. The program's goal is to serve all seniors who apply, however, priority is given to those seniors with less social support and resources.
