Winter Garbage Collection

Below are some tips for waste collection during the winter months.

  • Place refuse at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on pick-up day. If the refuse is not picked up, an orange-coloured tag will be attached to the refuse with the reason checked.
  • Please be patient as collectors could be delayed due to weather conditions.
  • Place bags or containers opposite snow banks away from the curb. This makes it easier for the collectors to retrieve bags or containers as they do not have to climb over snow banks. The Municipal worker typically has a higher rate of injury during the winter season.
  • There is a four bag or container limit and the maximum weight for each are 20.5 kg or 45 lbs.
  • Residents who require waste collection in excess of the four bag limit can purchase additional waste tags at the Jubilee Centre or Timberlea Landing at $1.00/tag. All bags or containers in excess of the four bag limit must have a green tag attached to receive additional service.
  • All garbage must be contained within garbage bags or approved containers.
  • All bagged garbage must be covered with a blanket. Refuse is an easy meal for small animals and birds if it is not covered. It is the resident’s responsibility to clean-up any scattered refuse.
  • Remove refuse containers from the curb within 12 hours after collection has been completed.
