Member Job Description
Eligibility
Any resident, 18 years of age or older, who resides permanently within the corporate boundaries of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, is eligible to apply for appointment to the Board. A person who is an employee of Wood Buffalo Housing & Development Corporation, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the Board is not eligible to be a member of the Board.
Appointment
In accordance with the Articles of Association, Board Members are appointed by Regional Council to terms of between one and three years on a date fixed by council, three years being the norm.
Applications for reappointment must be made to the Municipality.
Requirements
- Commitment to the work of Wood Buffalo Housing & Development Corporation.
- Previous experience serving on committees.
- Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board Governance, development, finance and programs.
- Attendance at monthly Board Meetings.
- Attendance at meetings of assigned Committees.
- Support of Board related initiatives.
- A sense of social vision relative to housing needs in the community.
- Ability to provide input without personal bias.
General Duties
- Develop governance functions that will facilitate outcomes geared toward guiding an organized, effective and cohesive Board as they move forward.
- Develop, approve (where appropriate) and monitor Board policies.
- Participate in the development and annual review of the three year plan.
- Approve the budget as presented by the President.
- Approve the hiring and release of the President. Support and participate in evaluation the President.
Assist in developing and maintaining positive relations among the Board, committees, Regional Council, the community at large and residents of affordable housing facilities that will be administered by the Board.
