FOIP- Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) aims to strike a balance between the public's right to know and the individuals right to privacy, as these rights relate to information held by the Government of Alberta. This law, proclaimed October 1, 1995, affects all provincial departments, agencies, boards and commissions. Municipalities were proclaimed under this legislation October 1, 1999.
