Fort Chipewyan winter road remains under construction
(Fort McMurray, AB – December 7, 2006) – The Fort Chipewyan Winter Road remains currently under construction and is not safe for travel.
Operations and Maintenance has placed security at the south end gate of the road and the gate at the Des Rochers river remains closed to block all travel other than construction vehicles.
Due to forecasted warm weather and ongoing difficulties in the delta, the road will open on December 15, or as soon as it is ready for safe travel.
A road inspection reports many soft sections in the sand hills. The contractor has brought in additional equipment to work in the delta; this work will continue until such time as the road is open.
