Thin ice present on local bodies of water

(Fort McMurray, AB – November 20, 2009) – Due to warm weather conditions, residents are reminded to stay away from thin ice, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

Snow and ice that previously formed has melted or is in the process of melting. The public is reminded to stay off of rivers, lakes, ponds, streams and all other bodies of water as these ice surfaces are not safe. Do not walk, skate or ski on the ice.

Adults are encouraged to caution children about the dangers of thin ice.

The Municipality would also like to inform the public that all skating surfaces are currently closed. The public will be notified as skating surfaces are opened throughout the winter months.
