Artists needed to spread holiday cheer for cultural Santa Parade float

(Fort McMurray, AB – November 3, 2009) – The Cultural and Winter Lights Santa Claus Parade Float is looking for local artists to assist in creating a collaborative mural, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

The Municipality’s Cultural and Beautification employees are creating a float for the Santa Claus Parade that includes two large collaborative murals. To truly reflect our community and region, the Municipality is looking for local artists to contribute to the murals.

“We are hoping to have several local practicing and student artists working collectively on the two murals,” said Connor Buchanan, Culture Coordinator. “This is another way for our residents to show off their Big Spirit in a literal way.”

The Municipality will hold between two to eight painting sessions, during which the mural will be completed. Sessions will be scheduled around those who respond first, with a completion deadline of November 20th. All paints and other necessary tools will be provided.

The completed mural will be featured on the Cultural and Winter Lights Float in the 2009 Evening Santa Claus Parade, which takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 28.

For more information or to register to participate in the painting of the mural, please call 780-788-4335.
