Outdoor gym pumping up residents for one year, feedback wanted

(Fort McMurray, AB – July 12, 2010) – The Municipality is seeking feedback on the Green Gym Outdoor Fitness Facility, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

Canada’s largest outdoor gym was installed along the Birchwood Trails and available for use in June 2009. The equipment has been a popular “active living” choice for Wood Buffalo residents over the past year. A public survey, located on the Municipality’s website, will garner feedback on the community’s perceptions of the outdoor gym and will possibly lead to more fitness equipment being installed throughout the community.

“The response to the outdoor gym over the last 12 months has really been fantastic,” said Adam Brown, Parks Technician. “This survey will let us know which pieces of equipment are the most popular and what areas of Wood Buffalo could possibly get future fitness stations.”

The survey takes just two to three minutes complete and all responses are anonymous. The results of the survey will be posted on the municipal website by the end of August and will be for future capital project budgeting.

The Green Gym Outdoor Fitness Facility is located along the Birchwood Trail and runs from Cornwall Road to Woodland Drive. Some of the pieces include leg presses, air skiers, and hand bikes. The outdoor circuit also features some of the newest wheelchair accessible equipment. The pieces of equipment are built to last outdoors and are operational throughout the spring, summer and fall.
