Wood Buffalo Transit

The Municipality runs a fleet of transit buses that service the urban areas of Fort McMurray operating seven days a week with the exception of negotiated statutory holidays.

New routes

  • 31 Timberlea & 32 Timberlea – provides two-way service to the Brett Drive and Blanchett Road areas. These areas were previously served by Mainline A & B.
  • 41 Stone Creek & 42 Eagle Ridge – replaces the old Route 4. The new routes allow transfers at Eagle Ridge.
  • 51 Wood Buffalo & 52 Wood Buffalo – replaces the old Route 5. These routes allow for two-way service on Signal Road, Tundra Drive and Cardinal Crescent, and create more direct service into Wood Buffalo.
  • 61 Thickwood & 62 Thickwood – replaces the old Route 6. These routes create shorter rides for the passengers travelling to the Thickwood transfer station.
  • 99 MacDonald Island Shuttle – provides 15-minute service between 6:45 am and 11:00 pm to City Hall.
  • Additional School Overload busses will manage high capacity routes, including Westwood students on Route 6 and École MacTavish students on Routes 31 and 32.

Changes to existing routes

  • 4 – replaced by 41 Stone Creek & 42 Eagle Ridge.
  • 5 – replaced by 51 Wood Buffalo and 52 Wood Buffalo.
  • 6 – replaced by 61 Thickwood & 62 Thickwood.
  • A & B Mainline Express– stops at Eagle Ridge Blvd. and Powder Drive and provides more direct service between Timberlea and Thickwood. (The Brett Drive and Blanchett Road areas were removed; they are now serviced by 31 Timberlea & 32 Timberlea.)
  • Industrial Special A – one additional run at 7:00 a.m.
  • Industrial Special B – one additional run at 6:30 a.m.

Changes to all routes

Due to extremely low ridership, the last hour of service has been cancelled.
Effective January 2, 2012, service will end at 11:00 p.m. from Monday through Saturday and at 9:00 p.m. on Sundays

Fares

Cash fare (per ride) $1.25
Eleven-ride booklet (11 rides for the price of 10) $12.50
Monthly pass (student) - including Keyano College students $34.25
Monthly pass (adult) $45.00
Children under five years and senior citizens Free

The Transit has an EXACT FARE SYSTEM. This means the drivers do not sell passes or make change. Fares can be paid by cash, one ride ticket or a monthly pass. All buses are equipped to accept $1 and $2 dollar coins. Children under five years and senior citizens ride the system free.

  • Monthly passes are available and may be purchased from 9909 Franklin Avenue - Jubilee Centre cashier and from MacDonald Island Park, or  309 Powder Drive, Timberlea Landing
  • Transfers are issued to cash and one ride ticket users only. A passenger should request his/her transfer when fare payment is made. Transfers are intended to allow passengers to go further in the same direction and are not to be used for return trip purposes.

Where to catch the bus

Bus stop locations are sometimes indicated by shelters, but in most areas will be marked by signs on lamp posts or other poles. The image on the right shows a typical bus stop sign.

Sunday and Holiday Transit Schedule

On Sunday, bus service may begin later than on weekdays or Saturdays, and may end much earlier. On the combined Saturday/Sunday schedule, a shaded background indicates the trips that are made on Sunday.
