Fort McMurray Public School District
The Fort McMurray Public School District has more than 300 teachers with a student enrolment of over 5,000. They are assisted by nearly 300 support staff with an operating budget of $67 million.
The district has eight K-8 elementary-junior high schools, one K-6 and two grade 9-12 junior-senior high schools, as well as Frank Spraggins Alternate School. A new junior-senior high school is currently under construction - Ecole McTavish Junior-Senior High School is expecting student enrolment in September of 2011.
French Immersion is offered from K to grade eight, as well as core courses in high school and French as a second language in grades 4 through 12. The District also offers several programs for students with special needs, for aboriginal students, and for students requiring English as a second language (ELL). Five schools offer the Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP).
In the 2007-2008 year of study, more than 50 per cent of 393 graduating students continued their education at post-secondary institutions. Also notable are the District's fine arts and athletic programs which are considered to be some of the best in the province.

Fort McMurray Catholic School District
The Fort McMurray Catholic School District believes that every child has the right to a quality education. Our students come from a wide variety of denominations, faiths and ethnic backgrounds.
Our District serves over 4,200 students in nine schools. Schools offer a wide range of programming geared towards meeting the academic, cultural and spiritual needs of our community. Instruction is primarily in English. French Immersion programs are provided at Ecole St. Paul School French Immersion Centre (K - 8) and at Father Mercredi Community High School (Grades 9 - 12). A wide range of sports, social, cultural, fine arts, spiritual and leadership programs are available.
The Fort McMurray Catholic School District offers Regular Kindergarten for children born on or before February 28th, 2005 (must be five years old before March 1st, 2010); Early Entry Program for children with mild/moderate learning disability such as language delay or children identified as gifted and talented that are born on or before February 28th, 2006; and Specialized Programs for children with severe disability or delay born on or before February 28th, 2007. All specialized programs offered in Catholic Schools meet or exceed the Provincial Standards for the Provision of Early Childhood Special Education.
Before and after school programs (out of school care) are provided at four catholic schools (currently at Father Turcotte and Sister Mary Phillips, and starting next school year at Father Beauregard and St. Gabriel schools).
